WEEK 6

Well folks with the end of the quarter fast approaching this will be my last post. I have learned a lot this quarter from mastering Adobe Photoshop to leaning how to create a website, I now posses the skills to create content for whatever I need. This is very valuable as a finish out my college career and move into my professional career.

This quarter I have had so much fun telling you what I have learned every week. I have explained how to use Photoshop, Indesign, Wix, Weebly, Twitter, etc. To some things up I have added the next few videos to help you continue in building your Photoshop skills.

To go back to my post where I started to use twitter. I am happy to report that I have continued to use twitter and I have seen a lot of benefits whether that be local and global news, connecting with peers and to connect with the community! Just for fun I will leave this video here. Enjoy...

So how have I liked blogging this quarter? Personally blogging is not for me. I have had to blog before and felt the same way. I think this is because I am not someone who likes to share a lot on social media. If I had to do a blog again for a class I would but for my own personal use? no.

Overall this was a great quarter I have learned so much. If you would like to check out more of what I have accomplished this quarter check out my personal website, http://kourtneysand.wix.com/kourtneysand

WEEK 5

Top 10 Rules of Web Design

One of our final projects for COMM 350 this quarter is to create a personal website which houses all of our work this quarter. Through out the quarter we have learned about different design principles and the personal website gives us the chance to show off what we have learned. To help others who have not take a course like this one I have compiled a list of the top 10 rules for web design.

  1. It all starts with a generator
  2. Design
  3. Simple is better
  4. Consistency is key
  5. Easy to navigate
  6. Memorable URL
  7. Relevant and recent content
  8. Don't be afraid of white space
  9. Use relevant key words
  10. Give them a reason to return!

WEEK 4

C.R.A.P.

http://paper-leaf.com/blog/2012/10/principles-of-design-quick-reference-poster/
Recently in class we designed the principals of design also known as C.R.A.P. an acronym for contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity. To better understand these principals if have done some research of various websites.

Check out more about their thoughts on C.R.A.P. design on the website,  http://www.thinkaroundcorners.com/2011/10/c-r-a-p-principles-design/

Here are some examples of C.R.A.P. Design,

Menus are a great example of C.R.A.P. as you can see they display all 4 principles.

I was able to use these principles in creating my newsletter and two page spread. While I like things to be very minimal and simple I use contrast by using black and white with a pop of color. I use repetition by simply using fonts and font size. I keep alignment through spacing and proximity in keeping relevant items together.
